There are several meanings to the word "spirit" so consequently spirituality often gets confused with ghosts and the "the spirit world" and many other things such as much of the above ABC's.

The word "spirit" means that which is intangible which cannot be grasped by the hands as anything physical. Gasses and vapours would be in that category and this is why the Hebrew word ruah or the Latin word spiritus refer to breath and life (without breath we are not alive). Also, the Hebrew ruah, as also the Latin spiritus, designate the wind - no-one sees the wind although its effects can be felt and seen.

In regard to spirituality however, it's referring to what drives our thoughts and feelings, the essence of the real you (or I), the spirit of who we are - hence upon discovering who we really are, we evolve into spiritual people. It has little to do with ghosts, fairies (or Faeries), elves and so on but rather to be effective in the world; it's to do with how we express who we are when we know who we are (most people don't!) - then our very existence depends on the creative/love side of the universe - the attractive laws and principles of bringing matter (and people) together.

It has little to do with religious beliefs which substitute spirituality with doctrines and rules. True spirituality comes from within, not from outside ourselves via pious religious teachers or even a genuine guru. Then when we realise (awaken) to the bigger picture, we more clearly see that while we have identity (ego) as individuals, we all came from the same and are connected. Then and only then, can we truly unselfishly love fellow humans (and even other creatures) as ourselves. And 'love' is only real love when put into practice. To me this is practical spirituality.
