I use this trick where I imagine I'm watching myself play music (from an audience perspective). That really helped me to 'observe self', and it made me play better too.

That resonates with a lot of what I've read, although I've yet to experience it. Thanks for putting it so clearly Buggy!

I find I don't really feel so different, it's like I can watch myself be happy or sad or mad etc. It's just that the emotions flow right through, so all the feelings are still 'me', but it is all less important to my life.

I can't actually seperate the emotion from the peace, I just feel content even if I get really frustrated.

I find that happiness isn't the same as contentment. It's like I just feel content with any emotion. I just struggle with the ups and downs as I always have, but I'm satisfied with it, because I don't have to be 'happy' to feel content.

In meditation I don't feel emotions, and when I'm conscious I feel rather indifferent toward my emotions. They just come and go.

SIGNS OF INNER PEACE

        * A tendency to think and act deliberately, rather than from fears based on past experiences

        * An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment

        * A loss of interest in judging others

        * A loss of interest in judging self

        * A loss of interest in conflict

        * A loss of interest in interpreting the actions of others

        * A loss of ability to worry

        * Frequent, overwhelming episodes of appreciation

        * Contented feelings of connectedness with others and nature

        * Frequent attacks of smiling through the heart

        * Increasing susceptibility to kindness offered, and the uncontrollable urge to reciprocate

        * An increasing tendency to allow things to unfold, rather than resisting and manipulating

Yes.

For me inner peace comes from watching. I have a parent like entity in my center that allows my emotional self to play out.

In troubled times they seperate a bit and the parent has to pull harder to maintain the kid. In peaceful times they become one and act together.

All I think is there is the emotional person and the spirit/soul that is aware of him/her.

I think "inner peace" is like being "the observer" and just observing the emotional person. Sometimes during meditation the 'emotional person' almost completely disappears - and the 'observer' observes nothingness.

That feels like inner peace to me.

What do you think?
