IMO, war is never justified, unless you are being attacked.

However, in the book "Hitler's Speeches 1939-1941", published in 1942, the "backstory" behind the speech is given, along with the speech and the reaction of different newspapers to the speech. These news reports indicate that the treaty signed by the Germans ending WWI (which was started by the assassination of the Kaiser) was strangling Germans and was the cause of the economic collapse.

In the book, it is shown that France, Germany's sworn enemy since before WWI, was instrumental in causing this collapse. While other countries allowed a longer time frame in repayment of the debt caused by the previous war, recognising what was happening in Germany, France insisted that the debt be paid in accordance to the treaty on time, with no flexibility. The book goes on to show that Britain urged France to change its position, saying that the lives of the German people were at stake.

When Hitler attacked Poland, it was to show France (who had signed a mutual nonaggression pact with same) that he was sincere in his attempts to stop the German people from starving--and that he would go to any lengths to do so.

Previous to the invasion, France's troops had amassed at Germany's borders. The Germans by then had built enormous amounts of weapons- all under the watchful eye of the "Allies", who permitted it due to France's threats to "wipe out " Germany.'

If that doesn't explain it to you, ask yourself this: why did the American people not riot when Iran was invaded? The answer 'we were getting rid of a horrible dictator' doesn't wash, esp. since the US put him in there after overthrowing the Shaw. We are not responsible for how another nation conducts its affairs, no matter how horrible we may perceive that country's leader.

If you consider Hitler's actions as morally wrong, the you should also consider Bush's actions wrong as well-- and should be insisting that he be tried at the Hague as a war criminal.

The situation facting Hitler is similar in circumstance to the first Gulf War, when Kuwaiti troops were sent to 'protect' Kuwait from an 'imminent' invasion by Saddam, who nothing about this 'imminent' invasion.
